At approximately 1:30 p.m yesterday, 4.8.26 afternoon, the Emergency Coordination Centre (telephone 112) started receiving a large number of calls, alerting them to a fire declared in the campo land located between El Saladillo and the Camposol urbanisation.
Firefighters came from the Murcia Region Fire and Rescue service, along with forest brigades from the Forest Fire Defense Unit. This was quickly followed by a helicopter from the General Directorate of Citizen Security and Emergencies, as well as Civil Protection and Local Police personnel from Mazarrón were quickly despatched to the scene.
While emergency services were working hard to extinguish this fire, at around 4.30 pm a second fire broke out in agricultural land near sector B of the Camposol urbanisation, just a few hundred metres from the first one. Helicopters were back and forth, dropping water until the second fire was extinguished in less than half an hour after affecting only an area of approximately 100 square meters.
The first fire was brought under control just after 7pm where the firefighters continued working to fully extinguish the blaze.
What a rapid response by these wonderful services.
Please ring 112 if you see any sign of smoke or flames. They don’t mind if they receive multiple calls.
