A Brief History

27 years of Camposol

The year 2026 celebrates 27 years since the inception of the Urbanisation Camposol. From an agricultural plot known locally as "El Saladillo" to a thriving community of approximately 4,500 properties across four sectors.

What is Camposol?

Countryside sun

The word Camposol literally translates as "countryside sun" and describes this development perfectly.

Each sector matures into its own community, not one large development

Based in the South West of the province of Murcia and close to the Spanish working town of Mazarrón, the urbanisation Camposol is unique. The recent influx of new people from all nationalities coming to live here has greatly increased, as has the request to us for more information and articles about the development.

The urbanisation is divided into four sections known as "sectors", historically known as A, B, C and D. There were plans for further sectors E and F but at the time of this site going live, they have not yet materialised.

Whilst the urbanisation appears to be fairly large as a whole, it is situated in the middle of some beautiful countryside, and each sector as they mature gives the appearance of 4 villages, not one large development.

The beginning · 1996

From "El Saladillo" to Sector A

The development is built on an area that was known locally as El Saladillo (little salad), previously an agricultural region. The development plan began back in 1996 with Sector A, recently renamed by the local residents as "Los Palacios".

Mercers Estate Agency

Started selling property in Camposol in April 1996 and opened their offices in 1998, in a Classico styled villa owned by Chris Mercer. This was on Sector A opposite the car park, because at this time there were no shops at all on the development.

Grupo Masa

The main developer at the time had a wide selection of properties on offer on an "off plan" basis, ranging from small 1-bedroom villas scaling to 4-bedroom detached properties with several bathrooms. There was something available for just about every budget.

Demand outpaced supply

The properties all sold quickly, and the most difficult part about choosing one, especially around 2001, was actually getting the one you wanted before another agent had reserved it. You had to be quick.

When a villa cost less than a car today

At the time, the cost of properties gave incredible value for money. These were the prices that really kick-started Camposol.

The four sectors

Four villages, one community

During 2001, development started on the other side of the road, beginning with Sector B, closely followed by Sectors C and D. The whole of B sector quickly sold out, and a total of approximately 4,500 properties were built in all.

A

Sector A

Los Palacios · 1996

The initial development, on the other side of the RM3 motorway to the rest of Camposol. Has its own shops, bars and restaurants as well as a chemist, a state-run medical centre, dentist, private doctors, and post room. Prior to the motorway being built, access was initially just by crossing the main road, and later through an underpass linking Sector A and B together.

B

Sector B

Commercial heart · 2001

The B sector commercial centre boasts an amazing array of businesses and essential services. A wide range of bars, restaurants and shops including telephone and internet services, a well-known chain Spanish supermarket, a national petrol station, a large electrical store, 2 large entertainment venues and some on-site estate agents. There is also an official "Correos" (post office) and a community centre. It is for this reason that Camposol is not a "gated community", as public access must exist for these facilities.

C

Sector C

Camposol Golf · 2001

Divided into 2 areas known as upper and lower C. Lower C includes an 18-hole golf course, a mini-golf area, a Club House and restaurant and entertainment venue. There is also a 4-star hotel, but sadly it closed a few years ago. The Sensol hotel was a wonderful venue with a state-of-the-art spa. Hopefully a new investor will be found and one day we can all enjoy those facilities again.

D

Sector D

Peace & tranquillity · 2001

Whilst the largest of all four areas with regard to properties, Sector D has only one outlet which is a laundrette. This is seen by many as a huge advantage if seeking peace and tranquillity, as well as outstanding views. The whole development became known locally as Camposol Golf or Campo De Golf.

No longer just a place to retire

30 min
Corvera Airport to many UK destinations · since 2019

Despite Brexit, the number of younger people with families still coming to live here appears to be on the increase. It is no longer seen as a place just to retire but as a beautiful place to live, and for a variety of people from across Europe and beyond, with a mix of circumstances. Historically, the closer to an airport, the higher the property prices. More routes are planned for 2026.
