I don’t think anyone will disagree that this August was exceptionally hot and very humid.
The heatwaves seemed to go on for weeks not days, so I did not do so much travelling in August. My main activities were lots of early morning dog walking, and lots and lots of swimming. I was not unhappy to attack plenty of gruelling admin in the afternoons in my air-conditioned office either, in fact I could have had a number of free helpers had I needed it.
I had promised myself ages ago that I would try as many of the classes run by Camposol Free Community Sports as possible, as there is now a wide range of activities and something to suit everyone.
I started with the Aqua Aerobics class run by Michaela at Los Balcones. It was great fun and a “home from home” as I knew so many of the ladies who were there. Any aqua based sport has enormous benefits, as you are “weightless” in the water, so even if you have mobility issues it can be done. I managed to get to two classes and hope to continue, though I am not sure for how long as the water is getting colder already. Have a look at the community sports page or Hello Events for updates.
I next tried the Body Tone class run by Cat at the social centre on Sector B, on a Tuesday at 2pm. An excellent class using hand weights, split between floor work on mats and some choreographed dance moves, but not high impact. I will definitely be returning to this. There is a Pilates class immediately after which I intend to try too, but sadly I had an appointment that meant I could not stay this time.
That next appointment was with Wagging Tails, the professional dog groomers on Sector A. I love my dog, but she was really smelly this time, having spent much of the summer on the dog beach rolling in seaweed, dead fish and anything else pungent enough to be rolled in.

I am so very impressed with Wagging Tails. From the very first day it was clear this was a business that was going to hit the ground running. Opening licences, disabled access, qualifications and all the necessary insurances were in place from day one, and that is not easy to do. Kayleigh and Brandon clearly love what they do, and dogs seem to know it. My Diva quite happily trots in, knowing why she is there, and she smells a lot better when she leaves. They clearly love their clients and it really shows.
Last but by no means least, drinking water in the hot weather is so important. We have had an in-line water filter for years, meaning we can drink straight from the tap rather than buy bottled water. We also have a water cooler for the summer that can be filled with tap water, and it is superb and “on tap”, pardon the pun. Derek at Miles Better Water Filters came and replaced the old filter, which needs doing now and again. It is also invaluable for pets, as there is a lot of calcium in the water here and the vets advise against pets drinking it.
I hope to be out and about a bit more during September. Enjoy the weather everyone, it is perfect now.
