They did it! Colin and Sophie complete the MABS Race for Life

They did it! Colin Thackwell and Sophie Cordell completed this year’s MABS Race for Life together on Sunday 25 October, with Sophie pushing Colin around the course in his wheelchair. What a wonderful moment to see.

As a mark of respect and appreciation for his years of charitable efforts, Colin was escorted down the home straight by a group of the regular runners. It was a very emotional moment.

Hundreds of people turned out for the day, gathering at the start line under the Ayuntamiento de Mazarrón arch before setting off on the 4km and 8km routes through Camposol.

Among the many taking part was Paul Cassidy, who completed the 8km walk in a superb 76 minutes.

Many of you will know Colin, a pillar of our community who has raised thousands of euros for charity over the last twenty years and more. Sadly Colin is unwell, and he and his wife Bronnie have decided it is time to return to the UK, so this was his last Race for Life. He was determined to take part, and with Sophie, who owns Ana’s Café on Sector A and has completed the Barcelona marathon, by his side, he made it round.

Together, everyone’s efforts raised a wonderful grand total of €7,300 for MABS, which helps the MABS Mazarrón team care for and support people across our communities who are affected by cancer.

A huge well done to Colin and Sophie, and to everyone who took part, and a big thank you to all who cheered them on, pledged and donated. A very special day indeed.
